Understanding Domestic Violence and Fostering Support

SACSS staff member Nushmia Shafique leads a presentation on Domestic Violence Awareness.

In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, our Wednesdays for Women program participants engaged in a meaningful discussion about the various forms of abuse, from physical to emotional/psychological and financial.

SACSS staff member Nushmia Shafique led a presentation and debunked common myths surrounding domestic violence. For instance, many believe that domestic violence only affects specific demographics, but the truth is that it can happen to anyone, regardless of age, race, gender, or socioeconomic status.

Wednesdays for Women program participants engage in a discussion about domestic violence.

Many people often think of domestic violence solely in terms of physical harm, but the reality is much broader and complex. Our participants learned that by recognizing the various forms domestic violence can take and actively working to prevent it, we can foster a culture of understanding and support. Creating a safe environment for all is essential, where individuals feel empowered to speak out and seek help.

If you or someone you know is facing domestic violence, remember that you are not alone; help is available. Let’s continue this critical conversation and support one another.
