SACSS Summer Youth Leadership Graduation and Volunteer Recognition
After being virtual for the past two years, SACSS’ Summer Youth Leadership Program was in-person in 2022! Students between the ages of 13 and 17 joined our summer program to learn creative writing, public speaking, critical thinking, leadership skills, team-building, and debate skills.
The participants in this summer’s Youth Leadership Program gathered together at SACSS for their graduation ceremony on August 31st. The ceremony was an opportunity for these wonderful youth to share with each other presentations that they had prepared on topics that they are passionate about–from origami to diversification in NYC schools. They exchanged ideas, talked and enjoyed the discussions!
SACSS also took this celebration and opportunity to thank our long-time food pantry volunteers among these youth, who play such an immense role in ensuring that our food pantry activities operate smoothly.
Xin Ying Wu, the Community Liaison and Events Coordinator for NYC Council Member Sandra Ung, also joined the celebration. Ms. Wu spoke at the graduation ceremony and awarded graduation certificates to the youth. She talked to the youth about issues that concern them, boosted their morale, and extended her personal thanks to our volunteers for all their hard-work.
SACSS sincerely thanks Ms. Wu and NYC Council Member Sandra Ung for their support of the program. And, of course, we thank our graduates and volunteers for all their efforts, hard work and community service.
We are so very proud of these youth and the volunteers among them!
