It is with profound sadness that SACSS mourns the passing of Dr. Kushalata Jayakar Ahmed, a compassionate Psychiatrist and Counselor who was instrumental in providing emotional support to the families of 9/11 victims. Dr. Kushalata Jayakar Ahmed  passed away on December 4, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, advocacy, and tireless dedication to others.

Born in pre-Partition Bombay, Dr. Kushalata Jayakar Ahmed’s life was defined by her unwavering belief in humanity. She welcomed relationships with people of all backgrounds and lived her life as a loving friend, wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. After immigrating to New York in 1967, she trained as a Psychiatrist and spent decades protecting and advocating for the most vulnerable.

She founded and directed the Brooklyn Family Center for victims of child abuse at Kings County Hospital for over 25 years, touching countless lives with her care and expertise. Later, she became a founding member of the Domestic Harmony Foundation, a support network for abused women and children on Long Island.

Dr. Kushalata Jayakar Ahmed  was also at the forefront of SACSS’s relief work, providing emotional support and counseling to the families of those directly impacted by 9/11. Her work embodied the spirit of SACSS’s mission—compassionate care, unwavering advocacy, and building a stronger, more resilient community.

We honor her remarkable contributions and mourn the loss of an extraordinary woman whose legacy will live on through the lives she touched. Our deepest condolences go out to her family and loved ones during this difficult time.

May her memory forever be a blessing.
