How Yoga Empowers Seniors to Cultivate Wellness and Inner Peace

At SACSS, we encourage our community members to prioritize their health and mental well-being of the mind, body, and spirit through our weekly yoga classes held at our Senior Center.

For our seniors, yoga is a treasure trove of benefits. It’s not just about improving flexibility, strength, and balance. It’s about finding a moment of peace in a busy world, managing high blood pressure and arthritis, and, of course, feeling good.

“When I do yoga, I’m very calm and feel at peace,” shared Madeleine, a SACSS senior who regularly attends our yoga classes. “It’s relaxing when you take deep breaths and stretch your arms and legs. Yoga helps keep your body mobile, and I enjoy doing activities like that to stay active and healthy.”

Focusing on deep breathing in yoga can help improve lung function and increase oxygen intake. Overall, yoga is a beautiful way for seniors to stay physically and mentally active while also enjoying a sense of community in a group class.

Happy International Day of Yoga! Today, we celebrate the ancient practice that brings harmony between mind and body. Yoga is not just about physical postures but also about connecting with oneself and finding inner peace.
