Empowering Community Members to Navigate Health Insurance Challenges

Many people struggle with navigating health insurance problems, but Community Health Advocates can help by providing guidance, support, and resources to ensure individuals can access the care they need.

On Thursday, Oct. 10th, we welcomed Assembly Member Nily Rozic, who hosted a Community Health Advocate (CHA) workshop in collaboration with SACSS and the Community Service Society of NY (CSS) to empower community members with valuable information about accessing assistance for health insurance issues.

“We’re fortunate to have organizations like SACSS and CSS for providing these resources to you that are culturally sensitive and are best for you and your family and loved ones,” Assembly Member Rozic said.

SACSS Executive Director Sudha Acharya thanked Assembly Member Nily Rozic for supporting SACSS and CSS for their “Invaluable partnership in helping our community members.”

“Together, we are making a meaningful and positive impact on the lives of those we serve,” Sudha said.

SACSS’ Director of Health Services, Rehan Mehmood, said they’re “Very thankful to the state, especially Assembly Member Nily Rozic, for supporting this program and ensuring that all of our community members have access to these resources.”

During the workshop, attendees engaged with Ayaz Ahmed, program manager for CSS’s Managed Care Consumer Assistance Program (MCCAP), who explained understanding coverage options, accessing care, medical bills, and claim denials that CHA helps clients resolve.

Community Health Advocates help New Yorkers navigate the complex healthcare system by providing individual assistance, outreach, and education to communities throughout New York State. The program offers one-stop services to consumers with public or private coverage, or no coverage at all.
