Embracing Creativity: SACSS and SU-CASA Art Program Bring Joy to Senior Community

This month, SACSS hosted artist Geuryung Lee from J-CAL (Jamaica Council for Arts & Learning) and the NYC Council’s SU-CASA initiative. This community arts engagement program places artists and arts organizations in residence at senior centers across NYC.

During this art session, our senior community learned how to sketch the India Gate, a monumental sandstone arch in New Delhi, and, recently, a vase of flowers, adding a creative flare to their artwork. With colored pencils and crayons, they delicately poured their focus and heart into their creations, eagerly anticipating the moment to reveal their artwork.

This unique opportunity promises more creative sessions this month, which we’re all eagerly looking forward to! Thank you to Council Member Sandra Ung for ensuring SACSS is connected with J-CAL through this program that our seniors love!

SU-CASA is made possible by the generous support of the New York City Council and will extend the city’s creative aging program to over 100 residencies in all five boroughs.
