Breaking the Stigma: Prioritizing Mental Well-being on World Mental Health Day

When you hear the words “mental health,” what comes to mind? For our SACSS community members, it’s prioritizing self-care, seeking support when needed, and working towards reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

During an informative presentation followed by a short film, our community members learned how mental health impacts an individual’s emotional, psychological, and social behavior. It is also linked to other conditions, such as physical health problems like diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

Talking to someone sympathetic in your life about your mental health challenges can help reduce stress and improve your mood, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

At SACSS, we believe that it’s crucial to foster a supportive and understanding environment for those struggling with mental health issues. By coming together as a community, we can break the stigma surrounding mental illness and provide resources for those in need.
