Arushi Gulati’s Dedication to Community Service Shines Through Volunteer Work at SACSS

Arushi Gulati, a 19-year-old student studying clinical psychology at the University of the West of England (UWE) Bristol, demonstrated her commitment to community service when she secured a four-week volunteer position at SACSS.

Arushi, born and raised in the United Kingdom, has a strong passion for clinical psychology and supporting those in need. When she began volunteering at SACSS, she witnessed firsthand the organization’s significant impact in the South Asian immigrant community in New York City.

During her time at SACSS, Arushi took on administrative tasks and assisted with packaging groceries for distribution in the food pantry. She also helped organize SACSS’s Summer Youth Leadership program and actively supported seniors and students in SACSS’s English classes.

“One aspect of volunteering at SACSS I enjoyed is the English classes. Teaching English as a foreign language interests me, and SACSS doing it for community members free of charge is great,” said Arushi, who speaks Hindi, some German and is currently learning Italian.

These experiences not only equipped Arushi with practical skills but also fostered personal growth, enhancing her social skills and confidence. This growth empowered her to engage effectively with community members.

“This opportunity gave me a lot of insight into not just the situations of people around, but how you can help them benefit from the resources SACSS allocates,” Arushi said.

Overall, Arushi’s time at SACSS not only enriched her with practical experience but also solidified her passion for helping others, demonstrating the value of volunteer work in professional development.
