As New York state certified Navigators and Certified Application Counselors our staff assists individuals and families in accessing both private and public healthcare coverage . Clients are guided through insurance recertification, selecting or switching plans and finding PCPs. In our role as Community Health Advocate, we assist low-income clients with large hospital bills by helping them secure Financial Assistance from hospitals. Through Access Health NYC, SACSS conducts educational events on various important topics about options for health care access and coverage, particularly for the uninsured.

As part of the Asian Pacific Americans (APA) voice, a collaborative of Asian American CBOs, SACSS strives to encourage the community to engage actively in their civic activities. Through a comprehensive civic participation program we register eligible voters, hold candidate forums and promote civic awareness to ensure that South Asian voices are part of the city’s community development and ensuring candidates and officials address their issues.

Our senior services focus on informing and empowering South Asian seniors about their physical and emotional wellness. This is achieved through educational presentations on topics such as health and nutrition, mental health, recognizing early signs of cancer, dementia, Alzheimer among others. The presentations are provided at various senior centers in Queens and at SACSS’ office. Individual and group counseling and assistance with benefits applications is also provided. We have monthly senior movie nights, where we screen popular Bollywood films.

We offer beginners, basic and advanced courses in English, computer skills training, and resume writing. Our ESOL classes help clients in their daily lives, prepare them for entry level jobs, and enable them to proactively participate in their children’s education. Computer classes teach how to use the computer, accessing the internet and MS Office programs.

South Asian Council for Social Services (SACSS) mission is to empower underserved South Asians and other immigrants to actively engage in the civic and economic life of New York. We assist immigrants to become self-confident and self-reliant in their adopted country. We connect them to vital services such as healthcare; offer English and computer classes for securing employment; and provide counseling services to vulnerable individuals and families.
